Wondering if there is any interest in trading reciprocal links on an informal basis?

(I am sure Haiko is gritting his teeth at this proposal because it may serve to cut into his banner network)

But, I think reciprocal links work to elevate rankings in SE's and I see this forum as a way to form an informal co-operative amongst the members to trade links.

I am suggesting trading links by e-mail, subject to mutual confirmation.

I suppose when the SE's get wind of organised reciprocal link co-ops, they will move on to ther criteria.

But it might work for a while...

    What' ya think?

A number of the regulars here have already traded quite a few links, so yes, there is interest. But several search engines are known to be filtering for "unnatural" link popularity so it's something you'd need to approach very carefully. Start by putting your site in your profile and then anyone who thinks you'd make a relevant link partner could contact you.

I've seen a few sites (reputable sites) with a page about exchanging links. I put up a page similar to it, does this mean some search engines will penalize me based on this or simply based on too broad a selection of incoming links?

A reciprocal links page that you build yourself and that is like no other should be okay. But if several sites all had the same collection of links, that's asking for trouble. There's a line in there that ought not to be crossed, but no one knows exactly where it is.
