Scheduled site downtime Oct. 4, 7:00 - 9:00 AM PDT

Due to a server upgrade, the Commission Junction Account Manager will be unavailable from approximately 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM Pacific Time, October 4.

Tracking and recording of transactions are fully functional when the site is unavailable. When the site returns your reports may be delayed for up to 24 hours. If there are any changes to this schedule we will post them to the site to keep you informed.

September was a great month, October is starting off pretty slow. Maybe a server upgrade is just what I need to kick things into action!

My sales plummeted yesterday and conversion was a third of the norm.

This usually happens after an update, now it happens on the lead up to one.

Oct. is coming in like a lamb.

Anytime CJ does an "upgrade" I wory

Connie- Cj back up at 9:00am sound like a long shot! What kind of odds are you giving?

I guess it's OK as long as "Tracking is not affected"

Phew - thankfully it's just an upgrade - I got a scary security message when trying to log in a moment ago and got a bit frightened until reading this thread.

Battling through theifware, keep=no, out of stock items, deactivated merchants and the jungle of great merchants and bad apples to try to make a cent.

    qksrv servers are down.
I don't see how CJ can be recording our sales.
    Like usual, it's a mess.

I don't understand why CJ can't run redundant servers when they're down. Hey, they got all those IT folks that can unlease a spider to harass our sites, maybe they'd step up to the real challenge of setting up redundant servers and get kudos rather than boos from affiliates.

What makes me wonder is why they go down at all. Does anybody here put their sites down except for reboot? Would you put your money making site down? hhehehhehh

From what I understand, CJ has two separate systems. One for serving ads, tracking clicks and sales, and a separate one for the reports. Theoretically, while the reports one is down, the other one is zipping along normally. When the reporting one comes back up, the tracking one updates the reports, which can take up to 24 hours.

This is why ads are normally still being served during these "updates." What I don't get is what happens when the one that serves ads and tracks sales gets updated. You never hear about any updates on that one...hmmmm....

It seems it's working again. May be they were just switching systems.

    You called that one right!

Of course, I shouldn't talk. I screwed up last night and crashed one of my sites last night. Learned of it this morning.

    >What I don't get is what happens when the one
    >that serves ads and tracks sales gets updated.

    Guessing here, but here goes...

The tracking system is not rocket science. It's a dumb system that takes the URL info, dumps it in a file, deposits a cookie and sends a redirect.

The tracking system is a whole bunch of redundant servers, and since the tracking system is seldom changed, and one server can be taken offline without any problems, you don't see any problems there (and tracking continues during updates).

The reporting system is different. updates may involve database structure changes, and it's easier to take it offline while they do upgrades and can then test it before letting us loose on it again.

As far as CJ updates go, historically this has to be one of the better ones. They were close to target with downtime, and reports seemed to update fairly quickly when they came back up.
