I have been listed in dmoz in Shopping - Publication - Books - New Media - Digital for some time but yesterday I noticed my merchant site was gone.

Any idea why this would happen. There is already an editor for that category but this particular site is well within their guidelines, as far as I know.

Anyone have any idea why it would be gone? Does it have to be resubmitted every once in a while? Or was this an editor mistake of some kind?

I don't get much traffic from that listing but its enough for me to miss it. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Why don't you just ask the editor?

Actually there are multiple editors making changes in that category.

But I think in this case Jimbo is right, you should raise it with the category editor via the ODP feedback.

Good luck with getting a reply. I have never had an editor, or ODP big shot, reply to any of my messages.

    Same here, Big Chuck.

None of my sites are ever good enough for ODP, oh heck, I'm not even good enough to be an editor there, even when they have no editors at a category I applied for. <IMG src=http://www.abestweb.com/smilies/crap.gif>

Yet, I still see some link farm affiliate sites in there, am I missing something here?

    Cheers,

Dynamoo, thanks for the PM. It was extremely helpful. And I also filled out the feedback thing to that editor.

Thanks for all the other comments also.

I applied to be an editor in a category of interest to me. I was thinking about it before but I definitely am now. We'll see how that goes. In the particular category I was thinking about, which I think I have met the requirements for, there are two links to pages under construction. These pages have been up for some time and no one has caught it. Considering there is no content or anything other than an apology for being under construction on the pages in question, it is my assessment that the category is in desperate need of an editor.

    Curiouser and curiouser.

BTW, in my category there were (I think) about 193 listings and now there are 170. There have been some major changes there. Are the editors overloaded or is this normal for Dmoz?

It seems like it would be normal for the number of listings to vary from time to time.

I think someone had been through the listings and purged some of the broken ones, it happens.

There's also been a few bugs leading to lost edits but I think they're fixed now.

yah i was once blessed with an odp inclusion.
2 editors in that category. apparently one of them put me in and the other one didn't like me and removed me. fortunately google picked up the listing before i was removed from odp.

here's a tip though. and its worth the extra trouble, in consideration of the resulting google directory listing even if you get bumped back out of odp. if you think that an abundance of affiliate links are what is keeping you out of odp, clear all the said links off your page before you submit to odp, so that you have a purely content page. add more content to bolster it. do anything and everything to get listing in odp. tons of traffic once google picks it up. once that happens you can put your affiliate links back in. pot'o'gold.
