Different editors no doubt. I've found neither rhyme nor reason to DMOZ and think it's b/c editors of some categories are just overwhelmed with listings and other categories have no editors. I've often thought of volunteering but no idea what I'm getting into.

    Hmm more like 4.5 hours

I think I did one in about 4 minutes once, it was just coincidence that it was submitted while I was editing.

True... I have been an editor for them from the beginning and being a human thing vs. software makes the difference.

A lot of editors are not too active and you can wait for ever. Some take it very serious and are always checking submissions and personal taste does play into things.

Also, you may have more than one editor in a category and one editor likes your site and another may not. This can cause all kinds of fun to.

    In any case congrats!!!

okay, how about this for world records -- I registered a domain on April 15, 2002 (yeah, last week), put the site up on April 18th, got the dns info distributed by April 19th...

... and the site got in google on April 21st

    I kid you not.

(no, it was not a previously registered domain, it's a completely new listing).

I guess. Although why google hasn't picked up the UPCOMING HOLIDAY page that is linked from the exact same pages and has been since April 07 is beyond me.

Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

From the sites I saw coming up, I noticed more emphasis being placed on the headline and page text than usual.

For instance, I have a certain product mentioned in the plural in the page title. That page would ordinarily have its highest rank under that plural term.

Now it has its highest rank under the singular--which is the way I wrote the term in the page body most of the time.

I didn't do an in-depth study of it but I noticed that a lot of the pages in the listings are showing the matching terms in the description text that shows on Google--as opposed to the page title. There were always *some* listings like that, but I saw more of them this time when I looked at www3.

The page title still seems to count, but not quite so much as before.

I don't know if there's anything else different yet. As I said, I didn't make an in-depth study. But I did notice that there seems to have been an abnormal shift, and spotted the difference I mentioned right off because it's visible right from the SERP.

I think there's something going on with keyword density, too... not 100% at this point, but I'm having trouble pinpointing why some pages dropped and others did not... I don't tend to spend a lot of time analyzing density and I think that may be where I'm getting hit.

There is a lot of emphasis being placed on freshness at the moment (across most engines, not just Google) and there seems to be a corresponding drop in rankings for less frequently updated sites. However, Leader is definitely onto something here regarding the body text vs the title text. My feeling is that this is a good move as it is the body text that really says what the page is about.

Keyword density ? Can't really see much difference in optimum density - the new pages I have got in have pretty much the same density as always (higher than you would expect).

hmmm... could be something else afoot -- it's my pages with the higher density that seem to be taking the heat, but maybe it's coincidence and I'm missing something else.

Freshness is not what's hurting me. I do daily or every-other updates on all my important pages.
