This month (Sept 03), I have so far earned $1,200 in commission. It comes out of one website, one affiliate network (CJ) and I have never utilized any PPC. This month is exactly one year I've been doing this affiliate marketing job.

I'd like to thank my best friend Andy, who introduced me to affiliate marketing and helped me got started (he's also an ABW member), and also to all of you here at ABW for making this forum awesome and informative and friendly to those who just started. Last but not least, I'd like to thank CJ for IMHO having the best affiliate marketing/tools technology, merchants that convert (at least for me), and user friendly interface. Except that datafeed thing, that I still need to learn.

Next goal: Build one or two more websites and earn $4,000 in December.

Congrats RS! I briefly dabled in adwords but other than that total waste of money (in my experience) I do not utilize PPC either. Of course I am happy to take anyone elses money through AdSense As for the datafeed, invest in Webmerge (a steal at less than $100) and you'll find it is a snap.

Sept will be my 10th consecutive month of $5000+ at CJ.

Wow, 5K 10 months in a row. That is an accomplishment to be very proud of!

    Good for you!

I can remember celebrating my first $500.00 month.

Not to throw a bucket of cold water on your celebration but...

Since hitting almost $5,000.00 a month and thinking of quitting my regular job, and now back down to around $1,000/mo. (and glad I didn't quit the 9-5 bit), I would like to offer a word of advice.

If you're like me, and rely heavily on search engines, don't count on the income and get in a jam if the SE listings drop, BHO parasites take a bite, or who knows what.

You may end up in the big leagues like TT, but for now, save the income (for taxes...heh) and pay cash. This business is CONSTANTLY changing.

    In the meantime, enjoy!

It's a great feeling looking foreward to a bit of extra $$$$.

CONGRATS - took me 15 months to hit the $1000+ level.

Caution: Try to diversify your merchants a little rather than relying heavily on one. Often you will have a merchant you are doing great with then all of a sudden sales SLOW , or they cut the commissions , change the terms etc. Then you have to rebuild the income base with other merchants.

Every business has it's ups and downs caused by factors out of your control. The key is to make enough during the up times to survive to the down times.

I read the post as saying he had one web site...did not say the number of merchants.

But the cautions should be noted. One problem with this industry is that success breeds copies of your web site.

Speaking of which, redsand, if you, uh (how shall I ask this?) maybe consider posting your site, and, uh, well, yeah, that's it....if you post a link to your site, uh we could all reverse engineer..., I, err, uh, I mean give you valuable pointers...

    sound thinking

The irony is that alot of the "successful" sites are so crappy that few if any would want to copy them ...they are nothing but pages full of copy and paste merchant links.

Anyone copying such sites is just too lazy to wade through the get links section and put a mess together themselves.

The better sites are seen as those that go to the get links section more often and keep their mess of a site more updated, to the delight of addicted buyers that eventually max out their credit cards and go bankrupt.

Happy 1k ...and don't give out your site, as was suggested. There could worse things happen than carbon copies.

    Thanks for the compliments, guys.
That's correct, I only have one website with more than one merchant, off course ..
    And one affiliate network...

It's all about SEO, but be careful, anything more than that it'd be a pure spam.

    Congratulations!!!

Now that you're on the road to success, make sure to avoid the parasitic potholes and merchant detours that don't pay commissions!

Best of luck in the future!

I think posting this guys letter here is mean-spirited, and hypocritical - especially coming from RS who was in his position only a short while ago. I got the same PM, and a quick search shows that he is sincere and genuine so instead of poking fun at him, why not offer him a tip or two.

Yes, there is a reason it's called a private message. I see your point that people are trying to get your info now but still you should extend a certain amount of courtesy.

Congrats on breaking that $1000 mark. I really would advise you to do more testing regarding PPC. If you can spend a dollar to make $1.50 - then that's great. I spent about $2500 in PPC advertising this month.

PPC brings consistent and predictable traffic which to me means consistent income. I have contol over PPC but have no control over the search engine gods. As shown in this thread and on other threads - an affiliate's monthly income can swiftly decline from $5000 to $1000 (or $18000+ to $5000). Yes - it's great to get free targeted traffic but with "paid traffic" - you lessen the impact of the search engine gods who decide to knock your sites down a few notches in rankings IMO.
