I just added a one-page wonder to my Inktomi URL listing and it's not performing. Inktomi shows it as included. The site targest a highly competitive area (over 300,000 pages show in results). How do I find out where my site ranks for a particular keyword when I search for it in the Positiontech search tool? http://169.207.238.189/search/search.pl

Thanks in advance

The competitive aspect could be the problem?

You could try wordtracker.com to get a clearer idea of what to target keywords wise.

Unless you're on page one, or two, it doesn't matter where you appear.

That's a good point. Guess I wanted to try to find out just *how far* I had to work my way up.

I used the Wordtracker trial to find words for this site, but I've got a software package that gives me similar information that has worked well for other sites. The trial on it had expired and I didn't use it this time. I just registered it a couple days ago so I'll give it a try with that.

Well, yeah.. worth knowing for the fun of it maybe... but yeah, you just need to do a search on an engine, if you don't see your link straight away, you need to do some tweaking

I tried the wordtracker trial too, seemed good... what do you think?

I'll probably try it on my wee Scottish site, I used Overture's suggestion tool to get the keywords for my pages before... any idea how Overture and Wordtracker compare for accuracy?

I'm getting results in google, first pagers and second's, but I'll probably do the inktomi thing too... my current listing in inky is about six months old

Certainly with Google, I'm finding having just the phrase you want to come up under in the title/keywords and no other jibberish in the tags to be effective... and just whatever in the page text...

But do you think if I have other keyphrases in the tags, I'll come up for those too, or will I go down... um scared to try

I wasn't too impressed with it. I've got a program that does the same thing - with seemingly better results - and it cost me a lot less than a subscription to Wordtracker would be.

I haven't used Inktomi, but I'm thinking about it. I emailed them my question, but I'll bet someone here can give me the answer sooner.

I see the first URL is more, then cheaper for the next ones. Do they all have to be bought at the same time, and all submitted at the same time? what if I decide to add another next month?

Thanks.

First one $39, add more for $25 each whenever you feel like it.

I tried Inktomi for the first time several weeks ago. Best $39 bucks I ever spent.

I practically live and die by WordTracker. If there's something out there that's even better, I'd love to hear about it. What's the program you're referring to?

MissDonna,
I signup up through netsol, and they charge you $39 for the first URL of every batch of url's you add. From the way I understand it, positiontech does not do this.
ie. yesterday I add 3 domains. 1@$39 and 2@$25
today i add 4 more..
with netsol it's 1@$39 and 3@$25 while positiontech is 4@$25.
I think this is how positiontech charges, and I'm certain how netsol charges because that's what they've charged me.

Positiontech-

They work fast, and give you stats for url status; when or if the url has been submitted, when included in Inktomi, # of click-thru's.

You can also substitute url's at any time too. If the page you first submitted does not perform as well as hoped for, you can change to another one. Or if you have a new page, you can substitute it temporarily to get it included in MSN within 48 hours, then change your entry back to the original url. The substituted url will remain in MSN at least.

Yes - it is $25 each at any time as long as you already have one active url in Positiontech account. The first time is the only time they charge the $39.

You won't be able to do that after June 1 unless it is in the first 30 days of your subscription.

After June 1st cannot change url to another domain. Pages within the same domain can still be substituted.

Does NetSol offer the same url substitution feature?

ineedhits is another option and they only charge $39 for the FIRST URL, all others (no matter when you add them) are $25.

hmmm - I'm using Positiontech for Ink but ineedhits has some other things I might want to try.

Re -Wordtracker - now that I think about it, the one-day subscription seems like a good deal; just use it as you need it. Do they include Google and Inktomi keywords in their paid service or just AltaVista?

I think full wordtracker shows 24 engines for results, but gets the results from meta search engines, not sure how it all works... but worth a try for a day right enough, if it works it works

IMO, WordTracker is well worth the money.

I don't build a page without checking it -- how do I know if people are more likely to search on "widgets with blue spots" or "blue spotted widgets"? I DON'T know.

But WordTracker does.
