my links to other site pages were at 278, my pages with the term "my site name" was at 524. With the last update it looks like this:

Links to other sites - "0"
Other Webpages with term - 778

My concern is the "0"

Am I being overly concerned about the "0"? in the links area. It doesn't make sense to me, not when I have 778 mentions that appear to be links in from other sites, not mine.

I assume she is talking about links from other sites. Information found with the google toolbar or other link popularity checkers.

I think she is saying that if you search for the domain name www.site.com the links come back as 0 but if you search for (name of site) there are a number of sites with term.

My answer is that it is likely that google has or will be removing your website from their data.

Same thing happened to me a while back.

Yes, in my experience the link:www.sitename.com ONLY works if www.sitename.com is in the Google index. You'll always be able to find occurrences of sitename.com, but for the link: tool to work Google must have the referenced page in its database.

I have a makeover sooner (only a smallish one).

Coincidentally, this Google links thing actually happened with CreepyGuy on the last update, it dropped out of the index because I was moving servers on the day Googlebot came to visit and I dropped out of the index (but was back next time).

yeah a newsletter is a good idea

If you're talking about inbound links (backward links by the google toolbar), I've had a few sites show "0" over the past few months. For some reason however they have managed to maintain their page rank and positions, and have not been removed from the index during updates. The inbound links also started to show again.

I've also seen other top ranked sites for which google is not displaying inbound links..

What does it all mean? who knows.. and maybe your experiences will be different to mine.. but I'm really starting to believe that the 50 PHD's they have sitting over there run an office pool each month to see who can come up with the best google twist designed to warp webmasters minds..

Regards,
TK

Someone (I forgot who) said quite a while ago that if PR is 3 or below, links aren't listed (even though they still count in your behalf).

I've found that to be true--if my PR drops below 4, I get the same thing (links show up as "contains the term" mentions, but not through the link: tool).

My PR is 5, I have 151 pages listed in Google, 90% of them are 5's. No I have not been dropped by Google - yet, and I hope I won't be, that just sent a shiver up my spine! The Googlebot has been around in the last few days and has updated the cache on a half dozen of my pages. Still showing "0" on the links in. And my Alexa rating just moved up from the 156,000 range to 96,000 range!!

Wow - just got back from a visit to http://www.webmasterworld.com/ and got my answer off there discussion group - you get different results using the www in front of your name or not - you even get different page rank results. All my inbound links are intact and my page ranks are higher using the www too!

Oh yeah that's right! I'm glad you weren't (shiver) removed.

I was just talking to someone else about how the www makes a difference but I never tied it to your question.
