My client's website got listed in Yahoo. And I am kinda of po'd that they didn't even include the word "family" in my description. Do you think I can petition them to add it. And does this description suck? I think it does.

FamilySave.net - provides links and information to a variety of products.

    Search for www.familysave.net.

Home > Business and Economy > Shopping and Services > Retailers > Virtual Malls > Directories

It's accurate, but lifeless! What was the title and description you submitted?

I think it was something like:

    "family information and family discounts"

They could have at least given me the word family. Can I petition them? Is it worthwhile? Has anyone done this?

Yes, it is worthwhile and yes I've done it - not too often, thankfully. And yes, again, that description sucks badly. It's also the wrong category - there is a coupons and discounts category that is more suitable.

However, Yahoo are unlikely to change the category if they placed you in the one you asked for.

You need to appeal by replying to the confirmation email. Point out that the focus of the site is on discounts and special offers for the family and suggest an alternate description.

I am a little uncertain what to suggest for this category, but something like this may do it:

online shopping directory focusing on discount offers for the family. Categories include vacations, family history and the law.

I would doubt you would get that second sentence included (though I would try it anyway as 'family vacations', 'family history' etc are high volume searches), but you should be able to convince them of the accuracy of the first.

They are quite responsive usually, if you reasoning is good and you've got 30 days to appeal.

    Hope this helps

    Mark

    Ich! Yuk!

    Word to the wise

Always include the exact phrase or sentance that you want them or any other directory to include as your description on the top of your page.

Even if they don't post the exact phrase at least they should be close to it.

Also the title and url of your website do not have to be the same. like for your website the title might be better as Family Save instead of familysave.net

I just did mine allinsuranceplans.com as All insurance plans and that's what they took.
