How many hits should I expect to get in my first month of operation? I use 3 pay per click programs I'm listed with ask jeeves and I've submitted my site to the major search engines as well as a few minor engines. What else can I do to get more traffic. How many hits should I really expect the first month out of the gate. Thanks for any help associated with this topic.<IMG src=http://www.abestweb.com/ubb/icons/icon7.gif>

Try exchanging links with other affiliates of related but not necessarily competing products. What theme does your site have?

I attempted to exchange links with a bunch of other car related sites. However, I didn't get many replies. Ant suggestions? My site, carbot.net, gives free price quotes on new and used vehicles in the U.S. Whats a good place to advertise?

Although I have not done it, you might consider a banner exchange. While we're talking about it, has anyone used a banner exchange successfully?

Since you have PPC traffic coming, the calculations are a bit different than if you primarily use the Free engines. PPC traffic depends on YOUR BUDGET. If you've got a big one, you should be able to get Up To many thousands of hits in the first month since car quotes/car loan quotes is a popular category, and the bigger your budget, the higher the rank you can buy. If your listing will be fairly buried you may get significantly less. But if you can swing a #1 bid in a major PPC, traffic should be no problem. Unfortunately, the biggest PPC is also the hardest to get into but that's another thread (search for cussing at ABW under Overture. Or OverSure...)

Also it depends on which PPCs you are in. Some of them hardly get any traffic to the engine, and some of them get lots. Needless to say, if the engine itself can't get hits, they can't send you any even if you bid up to the top!

Also your first-month traffic will vary GREATLY depending on if you can get into the Google index (with a decent rank) the first month. Usually it takes two. I say "two" because typically, the first month you get spidered and then the second month you get indexed... But sometimes you can fluke out and get in faster, if you're lucky. That part does seem to be luck, too--you either put your site up before the spider comes...or you miss the "bus" and have to wait until the next spidering. And that bus doesn't like to post a schedule...

I must say, one month isn't enough time to tell how a site will do. I've had sites start with zero and sites that started with thousands the first month. The difference between a site with lots of hits the first month and lots of hits the second or third month is in money and luck (PPC listings and when Google came by).

As for links, it can be easier to get people to link with you right here at ABW. There's a thread (weirdly enough, it's in Midnight Cafe as I recall. (It's called "Serious Link Exchanges" or something similar.) But it was getting lots of responses so I left it there...) where people who want to do link exchanges are making contact with what seems good success.

Note that sites too similar to yours are also COMPETING sites, so they're probably not going to be too thrilled with the idea of linking up. Try for sites that are related, but a "bit off". Sites that deal in Vintage cars, for instance, may be interested. They're not selling new cars themselves, so they're not in direct competition, but the theme of "cars" will come through to any search engines that care...

My 2 cents will be just what I was told in my beginning, it takes time. Just keep going and going. Before you know it, they will come.
Of course doing what your doing will work in time too.

A banner exchange isn't going to give you any large volume of traffic. Consider: Even if you get an even 1 to 1 exchange, and a 1% clickthrough rate (don't expect much more than that), you have only increased your site traffic by 1%.

By all means do at least try a banner exchange if you feel that it would suit you to do so. It may help with sales in the long run, but won't generate any substantial boost in traffic.

I agree with Leader. Getting in the google directory is the way to do it :0). make sure you have meta tags in your HTML. I have noticed some good traffic from google lately. Make sure you add product links from cj, linkshare, and reporting.net. and if you have a budget sign up for findwhat.com and possibly start a affiliate program at shareasale.com, cj and or linkshare. and link exchanges too. I also we invite you to sign up for the banner exchange located at charitybanners.org. you most be some kind of charity site though.

    Always,

    Jason
