I submitted my site to the open directory about 2 1/2 weeks ago and it's still not listed. How long does this take?

    It's hard to say.

The current record is around 2 hours (held by Heyder). My best is two days. It totally depends on the category and editor (if there is one).

Give it a few weeks then try again, if nothing happens after that then either give up or try another cat.

It also depends on your site/content.

the thing about dmoz though, is that, if they reject your site, they don't bother telling you. So, you end up waiting and waiting and waiting for no reason. dmoz runs a close second to Overture when it comes to the frustration level!

The other thing is that they have a tendency to change your title and the category you submit to, sometimes. You might be listed already you just have to fish around in there sometimes to find yourself!

It happened to me and more recently to a friend of mine - I quite accidently found her site, while she was wringing her hands wondering about where it was.

Overture is worse mainly because they charge!

About the only thing better about DMOZ is that they don't claim to be a for-profit (unlike Over), while they arbitrarily reject sites for trivial bull hockey!

jb, PM me your URL and I can check on the status.

There's a horrendous backlog of submissions in some categories, I recently found some that were two YEARS old.

JB, I feel your pain - lol. I am waiting in a sub-catagory that has no editor and the main catagory doesn't have one either -- sigh.

    DMOZ is a crapshoot…

If you don’t get listed in about 3 weeks try it one more time. If you still get no response move on to another category. You don’t want to keep re-submitting to the same category, if you rub an editor the wrong way you will never get listed…

    Stick to Google

I know a quick way to get your site listed in DMOZ. We should all become editors ourselves.

I tried to get one site listed for several months, got no response despite repeated, yet proper and dignified, requests for an answer of one sort or another.

Then i tried to become an editor - even in a field where I had no possible interest, and the response was basically that, "We think you are just trying to join so you can list your site, thanks but no thanks."

Sheeeesh, ingrate city. I even offered to work as an editor on a category where I had NO INTEREST WHATSOEVER, lol.

My personal opinion is, there are a bunch of editors in there protecting their affiliate income.
