Other than being extremely mad about finally paying the $149 inclusion fee and having them change to Pay Per Click about a week later, no bad experiences. Conversions for me seem about in line with Overture's conversions. The only thing I hate is that since they are now PPC, I want to use a good tracking URL but it appears I would have to buy a completely separate listing to be able to do that.

If you've got a content site then consider using Zeal which is free. Zeal is for non commercial sites only, but content sites carrying advertising *are* allowed.. an affiliate store *wouldn't* be.

Looksmart.com - hmmmmmmmmm..........let me count the ways they are not a good deal:

i) Can't choose titles
ii) Can't choose descriptions
iii) can't choose landing pages
iv) They put their tracking link in your Inktomi listings (so you ppc for these too)
v) They will include your directory listing in other search engines (ie: fast) via trusted feed, so you pay per click for those as well
vi) Their click tracking doesn't work properly - there is a strong suspicion that any bot that spiders LS will trigger a click
vii) Any of the words in your description may result in your site appearing in the SERPs, relevant or not. Of course, if someone mistakenly clicks through, you pay per click.
viii) There's some I've forgotten.....

There's also a few things I can't comment on here that make Looksmart an even worse deal, if this isn't enough to put you off.

LOL, just a few reasons, eh Markymark?

@dapyx, why were you thinking of Looksmart? If you were aiming at the MSN traffic, try Inktomi paid inclusion. If I guessed wrong about why you were considering LookSmart, ignore what I just posted.

ix) Multiple mechant links are always listed above affiliate links
x) They are "D"uper Affiliates - They earn more from CPA than they do from the CPC and listing fees ... think about it!!!!

xi)You know that auto-search.msn thing that sometimes appears - 'we can't find www.speltitwrong.com '

There is a heading that says 'did you mean ?' and a few links to similarly spelled domains - if these sites are in Looksmart, these links have their tracking URL and you will, again, pay per click, regardless of whether yours was the site they were looking for or not.
