Good call, Johnnie. Looks like a big update to me....lots of new pages in. What have they done to the algo though. I can't figure this out - is it less emphasis on link popularity/PR which would explain the fall of some of my sites or more, which would explain the rise of others.

Overall though, not a good one for me. Not at all.

Anyone got any pages in after 12th Aug ?

Markymark:

You're not the only one saying that PR appears to be less important... I'm not so sure but it's not just you... guess we'll really be able to tell when it moves to www and settles down...

I don't trust this.

I have 1st. position on two competitive terms on a brand new site, and almost no links in. The terms costs $4.84 & $3.91 on Overture, and around $1 on Findwhat for first position.

Marky, how can this happen? It has only one link from other domains.

The site has three pages of outgoing links to highly relevant sites on the subject.
It also has relevant keywords in the domain, but not the exact phrases.

If you want to have a closer look, I can PM you the url.

I really don't trust this. It looks too good to be true.

I'm scared now. Without jinxing myself...I totally owned a ton of first positions with some new websites, against major search terms. The switch is going to be HUGE for me.

Have you ever been frightened by top google placement?

Nick,

Yeah, PR is usually the last thing to be factored in, but the sites I have in Google that rely most heavily on link pop/PR for their ranking have taken a bit of a battering, while those that have stronger onpage factors aren't really affected. It really is wait and see, but if this is how it's going to be I am going to have to have a rethink.

OveB -

I wouldn't complain, mate, but if you want me to take a look, PM me the URL. You've got me intrigued.

Not complaining here either though I did get caught with my drawers down so to speak. In fact I did extremely well on terms that can make me a lot of money. The problem is that in order to squeeze those sites in before the last crawl was finished, I put up pages of nothing but boot-ugly raw text and links. I mean *really* boot-ugly unformatted html with no links to merchants. All I wanted to do was get them on radar because Google always crawls me while the dance is still going on. I had no idea they would do so well. Figured I'd have another week and a half to get something presentable up in those sites.

Looks like I won't be getting much sleep the next couple days till I get them finished.

Does look like the algorithm changed a bit. I was reading that maybe keyword in incoming text links to your site might play a little more importance. For example if your url is www.whatever.com and you're targeting the keyword online shopping, you want people to link to your site using online shopping in the text link, not whatever.com , if that makes any sense. Just a thought.

It looks to me like mostly new sites are being added at this time. I thought my traffic was lower but after checking my keywords they were only slightly changed.

It doesn't look like the cache on my pages have been updated with content from a new scan either - not yet anyway.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi
Well changes are certainly happening and yes I have seen a few new sites. One has jumped above me in a certain keyword but at least I am still in the top 4.

Anyway, I still cant understand why Google has not picked up other pages from my site, any ideas or pointers please.

regards John

Cedric, sorry to hear that. Ummmm, please say it is me. It can't be because you have seen all my sites.

If things would stay like they are it looks like I might be back to where I once was back in February before I got whacked. Some listings even better. I best go pray to the Google Gods. You all know me, I have never had anything but praise for Good Ole Google. BTW-Cedric, I probably owe ya one.

>>Cedric, be happy with your #2 listings and move on to some new markets<<

I know, I know... the first thing I thought was "I gotta get my behind in gear" -- the only reason they didn't snatch more listings from me is because they don't have the pages up yet, lol.

>>that would probably be Me...Just kidding..maybe......depends what listing....<<

I don't think so (I hope not), Canfree. This site was *definitely*, ahem, inspired by my site. When I started my layout and design (for a certain set of pages) was not out there on other sites. Now I know of three others... very similar (all showing up within the past four-six weeks).

Nothing I can do anything about (except be pissed), but this is the first one I've seen that's kickin' me in Google.

Time to get to WORK. eek.

[edited to add: @Packster, glad to hear it. If this new site takes all my money, you're buying the beer. ]
