Googlebot's just hit some new pages I put up - they are showing a 301 in my logs - what is a 301??
The only info I can find on running a search for 301 is something on redirects from one .com to another. I haven't crosslinked any of my .com's on the new pages.

301 Moved Permanently
The requested resource has been assigned a new permanent URI and any future references to this resource SHOULD use one of the returned URIs. Clients with link editing capabilities ought to automatically re-link references to the Request-URI to one or more of the new references returned by the server, where possible. This response is cacheable unless indicated otherwise.
The new permanent URI SHOULD be given by the Location field in the response. Unless the request method was HEAD, the entity of the response SHOULD contain a short hypertext note with a hyperlink to the new URI(s).
If the 301 status code is received in response to a request other than GET or HEAD, the user agent MUST NOT automatically redirect the request unless it can be confirmed by the user, since this might change the conditions under which the request was issued.
So it means:
If googlebot is visiting http://www.yoursite.com , it is actually redirecting to the directory index, so the permanent URL is http://www.yoursite.com/ (note the backslash at the end to indicate that directory)
Affiliate Marketing is built upon honesty. Tracking is not affected.

So in simple terms does it mean - the page it hit with the 301 is the index page of the directory - this is what mine looks like http://www.mysite.com/widgets - it was picked up, I think off my site map off of http://www.mysite.com.
So does that just then indicate then that the widgets page is the index page of the directory question?
