Ranking on the 1st page in Google SERPs is Free.
Buying targeted traffic will depend on your industry.
adwords & overture are generally the best source.
Cost will vary depending on the industry & KWs selected.

If you want quality traffic and are willing to pay a premium for it then go with Google Adwords or Overture. All the other ppc's are poor quality in comparison. However, be prepared to spend a lot of money, depending what market you are targeting. If you want casino traffic or web hosting traffic etc, you could end up paying a LOT of money for your visitors. However, if you are targeting less costly markets you can pay a low amount per visitor.

DO NOT buy visitors from those places that sell 10,000 visitors for $$$. They will send you VERY poor quality traffic

I hear the Nigerians ...Mugu and few others are having a 2 for 1 sale on e-mail addresses taken from guestbooks and message boards.

I'd get over to Google Adsense and check that stuff out.

I agree with cjshopping... Google AdWords 10/10, Overture 8/10, and FindWhat 3/10. That is a conversion index I have had over the past 2 years. PPC is #1 for targetted leads

I've had some success with AdWords, but you've got to keep your bids really, really low if you're an affiliate. It's quick to get listed too.

Overture is too expensive and too fussy, they'll drop your listings for no good reason and everything needs to be "approved". Never had any success with them.

FindWhat and Kanoodle were just about worthwhile when you could get traffic for a cent, but not now.

Inktomi is worth a look, but that's different because you pay $25 per page listed, however optimising for Inktomi is something that I find very hit-or-miss.

MarketBanker is not bad if you have a site that fits well with the target audience and you choose the right sites to advertise on.

I personally pay for no ppc. All of traffic comes from search engine listings. I find it too hit and miss trying to do ppc. Yes, you can get results, but it is so easy to spend a lot of money very very quickly. I had a free $50 Overture account and it went in 3 days.
I make good money from my site, and I don't feel like doing any ppc any more

I have always HATED to pay for browsers-- Google, Overture, they drive traffic... no doubt about it..

But, you better have deep pockets...

And, you have to be sure your merchant isn't sensitive to their "brand" -- there are quite a few who see this as competition (since the online marketing media has determined that SEO is the next best thing since sliced bread.)

I still hate paying for browsers.. and don't recommend it to anyone.

    Diksi,
I operate highly targetted webs for which PPC can be a good thing. For a shopping network it is not such a good idea unless each keyword lead is highly targetted. www.24hourmall.com seems to do this with reasonable success (Not my web). They target their higher EPC products/services with EPC marketing. Be warned - serious PPC marketing is not for the 'faint hearted'.

Generally, I agree with the others that PPC on the major SE's is not a good option for a shopping site, not without years of PPC experience and proper ROI tracking.

For those of you who have highly targetted sites, and an EPC of at least $30, you are missing out on a good and consistant income stream.

    Hi, Diksi:

If you haven't already, go to the top of the page at ABW and click on "Tools:".

The page that comes up will have a search engine submitter link. Follow that to submit your site to many search engines at once.

It won't get you indexed instantly, anywhere. But at least it'll start the ball rolling down as many paths as possible.
