Google dropped by the other day. It looked over my pages and then updated them on google. So, when I do a search my main page shows up. BUT, it did not cache my page. I checked my brothers page who has a link to me (I don't link to him) and his page is not cached either. I doubt this is on purpose.

What I am wondering is; is it common for google not to cache a page? What is the reason for this? Will it affect my standing?

This is just a by-product of the freshbot, I think. Or are you seeing no cached page at all ?
