    Ok..
so,I'm not rich (yet but I'd like to test the promotion waters.
I've not done any promotion or search engine optimization.

I'd like to start with $100 only.

What's the best way to start. I'm already listed on Google but have not a hope in the world of getting into DMOZ.

    Any suggestions?

    Best Regards...

Google's adwords is pretty economical if you want to go the PPC route.

Recip links from other sites (either yours or someone else's) works wonders. Shouldn't cost anything.

I agree that Google Adwords is a good route to go and generate "immediate" traffic - especially when you can pay 5 cents on a lot of terms. I generally use them right away on new sites to get a good guage of the EPC I can expect and will often increase my bids or stop the ad campaign.

Are you looking for something to help with long term placement or more of a quick fix?

    Long Term-
If you don't already have WordTracker- try out a short term subscription and run reports all day- it will be worth it.

    Short Term
I test most of my new ideas in FindWhat now. I can bid minute amounts and use wrodtracker to test response to new keywords. When I find a combination that works well, I spend the time to build out a site or pages to more fully target related free traffic.

A combination of both would give you a good quick boost and research tool for long term gain.

You people rock! Thanks a bunch.. I'll try adwords.

    Anyone interested in reciprocal linkage?

I can easily create a category for that.

DMOZ is a pain in the As* when it comes to Affiliate Sites.
You have to be lucky or buy a hooker for the editor.

    Short Term:

    - PPC Search Engines such as Overture (now $0.10) minimum because they are market leader.
    - Google Ad Words.
    - Other Smaller PPC Search Engines

    Mid Term:

    - Build a Site that makes people come back TO YOU.
    - Search Engine Optimization
    - PPC Optimization

    Long Term:

    - Build a Site that makes people come back TO YOU.

    Hi Carsten,
I've been following your saga on Resource-zone.

    I started mine as well.

    It's nuts!

I'm interesting in creating a links category to exchange links with other shops like I said...

Hehe... I am still pi**ed off.
    DMOZ Bastards .

A huge percentage of our outgoing traffic is not via affiliate links. No matter what they say, we believe in what we are doing. Our submission rulez are clear, and we have to pay our bills somehow. We make clear how we do it and it sounds fair to us.

Man, our no.1 merchant (outgoing traffic) does not even has an affiliate program and gets a lot of traffic every month .. for free.

And you are mistaken, a Link back to us for non Afffiliate Program Site is absolutely not required.

We ask politely and some do, others not. The reciprocal link is appreciated, but not a criteria for the decision to be listed or not.

Thanks for telling those guys like it is. Even if the sites never get listed, it's important that the voices of independent sites be heard.

    Way to go Shop-Links!
