Will Google etc have any problem with this?
The script that runs this is opened and closed prior to this.
I can't see there being one but I REAAAAALLLY want to be sure.

Google won't have any problem with that link - I am 100% certain. If there is a straightfoward a href link (like a href="monav1.htm"), they can follow it.
What are those * all about though ?

those * were so the code wouldn't show as an actual link in the post. HTML probably wasn't disabled.
The same thing can be achieved by clicking Options in the post screen and then clicking the HTML Off box.
