Last month I put up a new site and google found the site. Only problem is that 29 out of 49 pages are only showing the URl, no snippet or description. I am assuming that the pages were found and not crawled? So far this month they remain the same for this update. Should I be worried?

No. This 'update' is an oddity (who said shambles) - worry next month.

Google knows about and ranked the pages, but, hasnt for some reason or another crawled them.... logs should confirm ..

One other possibility, probably not in your case, but, if robots.txt blocks the spider from crawling a particular page, this behaviour can be seen as well.
