Apologies if this question has already been raised and answered before - I tried using the search function to find any old posts but had no luck.

Does the ranking algorithm at google.com place any emphasis on the geographical location of the host?

i.e. if I have a .com domain hosted in the UK, would google.com rank this lower than a .com domain hosted in the US?

Well, the general answer is no. There is no weight given in Google.com to any combination of domain extension or IP address.

They do use IP lookups to determine where you are based, however. So if you are a UK .com hosting in the US, your site will not appear in the UK filtered results at Google.co.uk. If your site is hosted in the UK, you will appear in these results.
