With ARIN cracking down on ISP's for the overuse of IP's most companies are going to have to switch to name based hosting, vs IP based hosting.

How is this going to affect name based hosted sites in the Search Engines?

I know that if someone else on the IP address screws up and gets banned from a search engine that the search engines ban the IP, not the domain name. In that case, if you are name base hosted and someone else on the server you are on screws up, you get penalized for it.

Are the search engines going to do something differently now since name based hosting will be the 'new rule' in hosting shortly?

What is your take on this?

As I recall, MarkyMark has said that the major SEs haven't banned entire IPs for a while now...

Thanks for posting that! It makes me feel a bit better since the company I resell for is going name-based shortly.

Everything I found online to read about it was pretty negative, but what I kept thinking was if this will be the new standard, there will have to be some give somewhere.
