Noticing dips across the board. Oh well, thank goodness we don't depend on the big G for our traffic!

My main site just went from a PR4 to a PR5. Does anyone know how much of an effect moving one number up has on a site?

Almost all of my sites got a PR Boost up to PR5. I hope this helps christmas.

Has anyone been able to get a PR6? That seems like a tough nut to crack.

I just noticed that Abestweb got a PR6.

A PR6 is possible, I just have not been able to break into PR7.

A little time and effort is all it should take.

EDIT - I just noticed a slip in a PR6 site, I hope not to see a drop ripple through the rest of them.

    EDIT #2 - and now a PR1 site went to a PR5.

They definately get harder to crack as you work your way up. I had a 6 for almost a year that recently dropped to a 5 again. 6 to 7 on a different site (I no longer own) took much more work. 4 to 5 I've generally found the easiest. However- I've also proven they can be done with fairly little time freeto actually spend on sites since I'm at the office most of the day

Our homepage just slipped from 8 to 7. When it went from 7 to 8 a few months ago, we didn't really see a significant jump in the number of Google referrals, although we did see a jump in traffic. Our Jobs channel just slipped from 6 to 5, but the same pattern I just described holds true for it. Many have said before that PR does not automatically equal great traffic.

Lots of factors involved, I suppose.

I have had pages with a PR0 get to the number 1 position for some of my search terms. There is more to positioning that the PR number. I just hope theboost will increase my traffic

PR is one factor of many that is used to determine your rank.

If there are two nearly identical sites with same keywords the one with a higher PR should do better. Most sites aren't identical.

No, but a PR of 8 does make you an affiliate god.

Dang. Almost wish I didn't look. My undies site is now up to PR4 (yippee!), but my coupon site (our big money earner) slipped from PR5 to PR4. Better get cracking to build it back up.

I dont think PR as displayed on the GoogleBar and traffic are related incrementally (Traffic doesn't increase in steps). I think that the PR that is displayed is not the actual PR which is affected realtime with Googlebot updates. I only think its representation on the GoogleBar along with backlinks are updated once a month but its effects are realtime.

Agreed however I just noticed 5000 additional pages added to google from my site. Me thinks this might be considered a major update of some sorts.

Let me ask a stupid question about Google Page Ranks (PR).

When you talk PR, are you talking about the page you're on (in other words a PR4 means you're found on the 4th Google page) or does it mean that you're the 4th site on the 1st page that shows up?

I'm somewhat confused with people talking about trying to move to a getting a PR5 and wanting to get to a PR6.

Can any of you old timers explain this to the masses?

    about Google Page Ranks (PR).

Go here: Google Toolbar and download the toolbar.

When it is installed adjust the options to display PageRank.

It is Google's judgement of the value of a page from 1-10. 10 being the highest based upon incoming links and other factors. The actual scale is not 1 to 10 but is scaled down as the real numbers change along with the number of pages in Google's index.

Why would I care what Google's subjective judgement of my page rank is if I already have good placement near the top of the searches?
