Does google start to measure click popularity?

I just see that all url on google, now have a redirect.

This has been done in the past (I guess by directhits or inktomi), but then the click popularity is scrapped by google, and focus more on link popularity...

Measuring how long someone stays on a page would certainly be a better indication of page quality than counting links. Let's hope it's true.

Nextspire, I think you shoud go to http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ , download AdAware 6 and scan your computer ...

Looks to me you've got some nasty parasites on your computer!

G have stated publically in both forums and conference Q&A sessions that they DO collect clickthrough data occasionally, although they swear blind that they don't use it yet.

It pops up on certain terms more often (SEO related terms are quite common), and just because you can see it, someone else searching for the same term off a different IP may not, as its purely random. IIRC, they said its runs at about 0.5% of all queries during those periods when they run it.

Most people of course wouldn't notice it anyway, which is why you don't hear a lot about it

    Hi c4
    Thanks. I've tried that.

I check again today. If you search for widget in G. Then in every url link you'll see

    http://google.com/url?sa=U&start=1&q...et.com/&e=7421

    instead of direct going to

    http://widget.com

Maybe they just do it to test, like TallTroll said...

They only do it occassionally. I am not sure what they are testing but I would not be surprised if they use it in correlation with their toolbar to catch search engine spam.

If I remember right, they said the occasional use of tracking url's were to spot check "search quality," a very broad term.

    Good luck,
