Take a look at this website and please tell me how the heck it managed to get that page rank when it breaks basically all the rules!?!?

    http://www.queerposters.com/

Look at the backlinks (mostly from itself) - half it's own pages are empty or full of nothing but keywords - then it has black text links to all sorts of poster sites on a black background - just looking at this site is maddening... I CANNOT work out how the heck it got such a page rank and such positioning for basically spamming!

Google is a page oriented system so links within your own site do help the pagerank.

That's why the layout of your navigation system is so important. Make sure all of your pages point back to your homepage.

Almost ALL of his links point back to home.

    Take a number.

It could be worse. Searches for a keyword phrase I target has been overrun by some Russian owned websites with porno pop-ups and viruses.

Google probably has a backlog of spam complaints. Usually i don't worry what other people are doing but a couple of times just to have a little fun, i just email them saying something like "I'm just starting out making sites and noticed all the hidden text. I just emailed Google with your site as an example to make sure that was ok. Thanks." I think a quick email usually does the trick.

I havactually been very impressed with Google's responsiveness to my three complaints so far this year.

The first one resulted in us getting our page rank and positioning restored.

The second one got a quick reply that I should take a hike.

And for the third, I just got a note that they are sending the issue to another department to work on.

They have been fair and prompt.

    SamyT,

It would have more to do with off page factors than on page and the 785 sites that link to them that do not show in the toolbar backlinks.

Also, PR aint all it's cracked up to be, more important is how well does it place in it's targeted searches? It's #30 for gay posters...

what's more, is that the site is another obvious case of DMOZ editor abuse, since it's in Dmoz, and is an affiliate site (and still under contruction at that).

Good news is...DMOZ now has a abuse report that actually works

I really don't know how to reply since obviously I made my first post fishing for trouble. Let's drop it before it gets started and I'll appoligize for my first post. Good enough?

It would be nice if someone from Google would come on board here and answer some questions. I remember when they were starting out and paid us per click at CJ.
    Maybe Haiko could invite them?

    Hi there!

The site in question actually used to be a nice gay and lesbian posters store. We linked to it from our lesbian search engine.

The site now looks nothing look the old one.
Maybe the owners forgot to renew the name and someone took over with the current site?

A little off the subject... we also sell adult toys... this past month many of our top product search results have been taken over by spam results... hidden text, redirects, porn, etc.

This has caused our sales to be cut in half. We have reported some of the major spam offenders and are hoping to see better results again soon.

queerposters.com was removed from the ODP a couple of months back, Google's probably just catching up. Also, the PR is probably out of date too.

Domain was only registered this June, so the expired domain theory looks likely. Google is rubbish with PR for expired domains at the moment, but it'll probably get reset as a PR0 on the next update.
