CJ just sent out a newsletter claiming that googlebot follows qksrv.net links and then conveys the benefits of PageRank on the merchant site from the affiliate site. Anybody believe them?

Hmmm .. without knowing the technology they are using for rerouter to the merchant .. I find that hard to believe that google bot would travel through the entire database route path. That's my opinion anyway.

If this were the case, wouldn't sites with qksrv links be showing up on Google in the merchant's backlinks?

Google only shows links from PR 4 or greater pages.

I just checked one merchant I have a lot of links to from pages with a PR 5, and none are showing as backlinks.

Some of the links have been there for over a year, so if they were going to counts as links they would show.

I don't remember seeing that in a newsletter either. Since it's a redirect, I don't see how it could help PR.

CJ does a temporary redirect (302 "Found" http response) on the click (actually a few of them). Word on the street (and I've seen convincing evidence) is that Google doesn't pass pagerank through temporary redirects.

There are other factors that work against any PR benefit it as well.

Serious question: How would you affiliates feel if merchants were able to leverage their affiliate base to build pagerank?

I've seen speculation to that effect, and a few merchants have had a mysterious rise in SERP rank after starting their programs.

But I've also seen the PR stop right at qksrv itself--there's more than one listing in Google which shows the actual tracking link as a result (instead of the page it was originally on). I got my tracking link to a particular merchant in there for a while without doing anything special. I didn't find out about it until the merchant emailed me--which also shows the lack of effectiveness of a link called QKSRV.NET/CLICK-XXX...(blah blah) being in the listings...

We would have to find a way to kill that effect.
