I think the google freshbot got a hold of one of my sub pages and when I check the search phrases people use my page is near the top of page one or at the top

maybe time to start working on those backlinks :P

Ah the great Google god will take it away after toying with you for a bit.

I have a PR6 site which had some great pages in.. for about two days, but the new pages vanished from the index and haven't been back since. Google is a funny old thing..

I have noticed that a new site gets a boost in Google, getting a few days in top of the serps. It lasts for 3-7 days after which the site moves to a much lower level. After that the site will be slowly promoted, and crawled deeper, based on the number and quality of incoming links as Google finds them. I have often seen the early surge in traffic, only to see it wane shortly after. Be patient, and your traffic will return, but it will take months.

Happening to me too - glad I'm not the only one that's being affected by google's fickle nature...one day you're riding high and the next you're buried...

Oscar, there's nothing fickle about it. It happens every time, in the same way.

I would break all my servers if I had 10 times the traffic of a previous day. But, it'd still be nice!

Google is strange. I have a site that was getting so many hits that I had to buy a second server. Now, Google referrals have slowed down so much that 1 server is enough for the site. Nothing has changed, I likely have many more links to the site than before, and Googlebot has sucked up a lot more pages, but, traffic is down.

Just build a new site to make up for lost traffic. As that one is getting the "new site" google boost, make another site... repeat until you retire.

    well it was short lived

traffic as dropped off suddenly after a few days :P and sure enough I'm no longer #1 for those search terms used to find my site previously.

anyone got a good link exchange program to recommend? been looking at trafficswarm and I think linkpartners.com and for some reason I get a feeling the trafficswarm traffic may be mostly OTHER webmasters.
