Is it best to have links on each of your pages to all your other pages OR have a site map with the map's url on all the pages?

Best in terms of maximizing the pages placement in Google SERPs.

Could someone please explain the pros and cons.
I am struggling with what to do.
    Thanks

I use a sitemap or nav links on my home page leading to all my pages with a link back to home.

And, that's the bottom line because it's my2cents!

It's not really possible to give a definitive answer to that one, El Jefe.

What you do need to do is to ensure that Google and the other search engines (there are some other search engines, apparently) can spider all your site as quickly and easily as possible. So, a site map is a must regardless of whatever other navigation structure you are using.

If it's a small-ish site, then it would be simple to have a flat navigation structure, whereby every page links to every other page. Though, generally, a Yahoo directory style navigation structure is a winner with the search engines and that's what I would recommend for ecommerce type sites.

Would I be ok to use a site map on my home page
AND on all the other pages?
    Thanks

In case it doesn't, sandwiching a Fossil watch in between a cashmere hat and a pair of disposable contact lenses should do the trick. Put clothing-related keywords in the page title tag just for good measure.
