I just added Adsense to my site, http://www.dormcrap.com and all I can see are Public Service Announcements. United Way, Save Africa, etc etc.

Is this normal? Some sort of new member penalty or something?

Do you guys see real ads or just PSA's?

Any insights would be most welcome.

I have one content site and on page leading to my forum the adsence ads are way off on content. The first one says:
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> Accused Sex Offender? You need experienced representation immediately! Free consultation 24/7 <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
and the other one says: <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>Federal Criminal Defense
Free Consultation - Avoid Jail Federal Courts & Crimes <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

If those are still there tomorrow, Google Adsence will be getting a firm letter of warning from me.

I see ads for gadgets, but you may not get much more than that.

Your whole page is images.. how is the adsense bot supposed to read the page?

I've found that it takes AdSense a number of times displaying on a page before the ads zero-in on the actual content of the page.

I've watched a 4-unit ad on a new page first have no relevant ads, then one, then two...until pretty quickly all four spots had nicely-relevant ads.

You might try playing with your title a little bit - that often helps. Maybe add something like - college dorm essentials - or something like that..

After being accepted to the programme and successfully pasting the AdSense HTML ad code into your web pages, ads will start running on your site within minutes. If your site is not yet in our index, it may take up to few hours or more before we are able to crawl your site. Until we are able to crawl your site, we may display public service ads or your specified Alternate Ads, for which you will not accrue any AdSense earnings.

The AdSense programme uses geo-targeting to serve AdWords ads to your pages - ads are specific to a user's region and language, based on their IP address. This means that the ads that are served to a user from Australia may be different than those that appear for a user from Canada. Geo-targeting makes the ads even more relevant for visitors to your site, and also means that you may not see all of the ads that can be served to your pages.

    Quote from google FAQ's

Basically if you have a page with very few keywords or content Google will be unable to serve targeted adverts so it displays the 'Public non-paying adverts' take this as a warning..if the google adsense bot cannot work out what a page is about...or it cannot find much in the way of content..then the google, Yahoo, MSN etc SE's will have the same problem.

I'm unable to quote my google earnings due to their T&C's but rest assured..it pays very well when used correctly...and if you look a bit deeper in the FAQ's you have the option of displaying your OWN adverts in the google adsense box if google cannot display normal adsense adverts, so you can always have revenue earning adverts on a page..even if google has no idea what you page is about.

All PSAs on our sites today with an occasional ad mixed in. Glad to see it's not just us.

Looks like googles search engine itself isn't show any paid ads... I couldn't find any at least. If there isn't any there then you can probably bet there won't be any on affiliates sites.

I see only PSAs on my website... no paid links..

But if I check google.com I see only paid links

And all this since they introduced the new PSAs model.

Right now I'm waiting for an answer from them. Hope everything gets fixed next week.

Don't you all use the "Alternate ad" option?

    From https://www.google.com/adsense/faq#basics10

    <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>10. What are 'Alternate Ads?'

Alternate ads allow you to utilize your ad space in the event that Google is unable to serve targeted ads to your page. By specifying an image, HTML page, or ad server of your choice, you can make sure that your advertising space is always being used effectively, either by targeted AdWords ads, or by your own choice of content. You can also select a solid color as your alternate ad, if you prefer not to display other advertisements or content when targeted AdWords ads are unavailable.

Alternate ads count as page impressions like any other ad. Google does not keep track of clicks on alternate ads and you will not receive revenue for them.

Alternate ads, if specified, will be shown when there are no targeted ads available for your page. The ad space will not be branded as 'Ads by Google.' <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
