Yahoo just slapped me down good. I was doing great with a datafeed site until yesterday. Had over 20K pages and was getting around 1,500 uniques a day. Now I'm down to around 150. All due to Yahoo penalty. They have dropped all but a few hundred of my pages. Could be that they didn't like the content, or could be cross-linking (I cross linked a few of my sites).

Just post it here as FYI. Not really looking for anwers...I know the drill. Get links, build unique content.

You forgot the one that Yahoo! will actually pay attention to:
    Paid Inclusion.

Sorry, just a little bitter. They dropped about 70,000 pages of our site.

Ouch! Did they drop your free listings, or did they drop your paid inclusion ones??

And what kind of penalty could have Yahoo possibly have given your websites? From where I sit, the Smooth Corp. sites look just fine.

Free listings only, but still painful.

What I did to check was site:ifloor.com. It returns the number of pages in Yahoo's database (same for Google too).

Speaking of that, I checked again today-- and for some reason we now have about 16 times what we had yesterday.

We went from 11,000 to 173,000 pages. Wacky.

I'm still out...I hope my pages come back. I suppose it is possible that my site was down when they crawled or something. One can only hope. Live by the search, die by the search.

My freaking web hosting service f#@ked up with renewing my domain, and my domain was not renewed. I had quite a few Yahoo number 1's, then my entire site vanished from Yahoo.

I am finally starting to get some traffic back from Yahoo

I went from 1000 hits for the day to 3 - snap just like that. Checked and yes the pages indexed for some wierd reason dumped on Google AND Yahoo has done a match! - How crazy is that!

    Abigail,

What do you think the cause was in your case? Here are some speculative causes to choose from:

    Cross Linking
    Duplicate Content
    301 Redirect
    PFI

My guess...none of the above. I think Yahoo is stuck on shuffle.

I've got one site that's been in and out since February, still can't figure out what's up - very frustrating, just when I think it's on its way back in, bang, down she goes again. Bring on the tranquilizers!!

That's how my first site was acting before the mid march flush.

traffic growing steady.. google update.. down to 50%.. climb back up.. google update.. down again.. and so on.

if you want quicker results to get back in, start with paid inclusion in directories that are regulary crawled by Ink. otherwise, the link exchanges with sites indexed by Ink will help. just takes longer than google. as for onsite improvements Ink puts more emphasis on meta tags, anchor text, and headings, as well as good solid content. there is a little emphasis on keyword density but i would not go overboard with it.
