Apologies from a newbie here if this is a redundant q: Does Google (or other SEs) give higher non-advertisement (i.e. pure-search-results) rank to those who advertise with them, such as with G's AdShare program? One would like to believe that solid, lovingly nurtured efforts in SEO (meta, title, h1 tags, etc) account for something.

Supposedly not. However, having your ad out there may help rankings in some secondary way with other sites linking to yours.
