What is the difference between a search term in quotes and one that's not? I think I used to know this!! Like, why would a site selling Blue Widgets be number one with "blue widgets", and 20 for the same term with no quotes?
And if Blue widgets(no quotes) used to be Number 2, but fell to 20 (but not the quotes), what could be the cause??

Quotes means exact phrase, while no quotes means two words on the same page.Dr. Strangeweb, or how I learned how to stop worrying about SERPS and love the WOM.

But the exact same phrase was on the site, and doing an allinanchor:blue widgets = #2 and searching "blue widgets" is #3. The site is about blue widgets, and therefore appears together throughout. Could I have a penalty of some sort? I used to be between 4 and 8 for months....

I got Blue Widgets back (Without quotes!) I believe I had a penalty of some sorts. I was linking to some banned travel/hotel sites, and a few days after I removed their links I got my old results back...so check your reciprocal links y'all!!!
