MSNBot has been gathering pages from my sites at a rate twice that of Google.

When do they start serving up results?

Not yet, MSN is still using INK. The MSNbot is for their own search when is coming out who knows when. Here's a little info:

Yeah, I've read that two or three times. The bot has no problem gathering data, I just wish I could see what the potential SERPs are going to look like.

There is some talk on WMW today about this, including some comments from MSNDUDE.

    http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum97/73.htm

MSN Bot has been very, very busy on our site for the last few weeks. If I was worried about bandwidth I probably would have banned their bot because it still is not behaving very well...

I guess no "Google Bombing" in the new MSN search.

Didn't Sergei and Page say the same thing in 1998?

    Another article: http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,116469,00.asp

Cause for concern: <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>Web spam can be identified by looking at the tactics used by the owners of such Web sites to trick search engines. Microsoft is tracking how many domain names point to the same Web site, the length of domain names and the number of links to the same site on a Web page, among other things, Fetterly says.

By analyzing the data, likely spam pages can be pinpointed. These could then be excluded from a search engine or placed lower on a search results page, Fetterly says. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>Suppose that I had a sig with a link to my site and I was in a heated "tennis match" with someone over whether or not they're blue and fuzzy widgets as opposed to red smooth widgets, resulting in tons of links to a site on one page?

Scary to think that by promoting myself, I am hurting myself at the same time.

Theres a thread at WMW about this from somebody from MSN, if the MSNbot is getting to aggressive. Email problems to msnbot@microsoft.com

Also they have a crawl delay:
    User-Agent: msnbot
    Crawl-Delay: 20

It allows you to specify an amount of time in seconds the MSNbot should wait before retrieving another page from the host. It will slow down on your host while still making sure your pages get indexed.
