Is it better to wait until my site is completely finished, or submit it as I am building? Right now I have maybe 5 of 20 sections completed.

    Thanks for any insight...

if the 5 sections are the front five... I'd do it now... and biuld as you can...

just disable the links to what is not there...

I would submit now, and it will pick up as you go along. It can take the search engines as much as 30 days to build naturally from what I have experienced, as well as Alexa so get your information in to Alexa if you want to use that tool.

    I concur,

doens't matter that your page may not be anything special now, get it in the queue and when you do make changes they'll be picked up faster

also, don't apply to google manually
let them find you or place a link to your site on an already indexed page, you'll get penalized otherwise

don't apply to directories yet, they may refuse your submission and ignore you in the future

only apply to SE's that send out spiders

Thanks for all you help. I am going to put an obscure link from another site so it can be found. I don't really want anyone (person)to follow the link - just the search engines.

The answer is don't submit at all. Get a link back to your site and it'll be indexed without you ever doing anything. The days of submitting sites to search engines are over. Search engine bots will find you eventually. Just get a spidered site to link to you.

I never submitted my plushy puppy site to any site and it has been indexed just fine. (The plushy site was created in February 2004)
