Is anyone following this discussion over at webmasterworld?

Many webmasters at webmasterworld say that large sites with high traffic have seen their traffic from Google drop by approximately 50% starting with the first week of August, 2004. Some claim the drop is the largest they have seen in 7 years of being on the web.

    Any comments?

That's a long thread. I think even if people figured out what Google was doing with 100% certainty most would probably rush and make changes and then Google would switch it up again and it becomes an endless circle of algo chasing. Could be what's being talked about here:

    Who knows.

I wish my traffic had only dropped 50%, last March mine actually dropped something like 90%, I'm still nowhere near what I was getting prior to March yet.

Same here Gordon. Was doing great through February then the traffic tanked to about 10% of what it was. Needless to say, so did my commissions

yes exactly the same Xandman, I'm still way down on what it was prior to the drop.

I see some changes on the keywords (non-PPCSE) driving traffic to my site but no traffic drop from Google since February. Some shift on the major landing pages from the SERPs but I put that stat at those categories being flooded by cookie stuffing SE spammers in crowded categories. Almost the same referral percentages from Google -Yahoo -MSN -AOL. It is just my sales that have plummeted.

It doesn't matter. A couple of years ago everyone HAD to be in Overture and no one even talked about Google.
The new source of traffic will be known pretty soon. The site visitors always come from somewhere. We will figure it out in very short order. We will just migrate like the birds in spring time.

A lot of people are reporting a jump in Yahoo usage.

I suspect one of the widely installed parasites has either switched from supplying Google searches as page fillers to Yahoo.

Either that or there's a widely installed parasite that been auto-updated and is diverting Google toolbar searches elsewhere.
