Look at the 3rd result in the following query.

How is the direct shareasale link appearing like that? No title, no description, etc.

This is strange but it does not surprise me. When I do a search for my number one search term, I get the sites that are linking to me instead of the site. It may be a little hint of how google is valuing who you link to or the value of link text. Maybe they have put a higher emphasis on who you link to, to defining what your site is.

I have seen this kind of result in the past but it disappeared in a few weeks. I would imagine this one will to. It seems like google does not test out the changes well enough before rolling them out. Maybe they just roll it out and watch for spam reports or big companies complaining through there adwords reps.

It may be their way of battling all the link buying and trading?

A lot of the results I’m seeing are just plain out of wack right now.

If they have such good results why do they make such big changes instead of little perfecting tweaks?

    End rant.

On closer inspection it looks like result number 5 is using a redirect script in order to hide the affiliate link and that is getting picked up by google.

    Yep, 5 is doing that.

I just never saw the full shareasale url link show up as a result before until recently.

    Too weird.

I'm also seeing sites coming up with just a mention of a product and not optimized for it. Like news stories.

Results are bad, things will change.

Someone is good at cloaking - showing Google a different page than what the normal visitor sees. You use to see alot of that in Google regarding CJ links a while back, but since then G has gotten rid of most of that. First time I've seen someone do that with a ShareaSale link.

Good route for quick income, I guess, but not a solid business model.

Hilarious seeing all the affiliate SE spammers flocking to SAS to create hidden doorway page cookie stuffing re-directs. Good job SAS in doing some TOS compliance testing as you've become a roosting site for the datafeed/doorway page builders. Might be nice to actually look over those hidden SAS affiliate web sites using a common consolidated affiliate ID# and cut off paying them for forced cookie stuffing.

Report the sites to Google, they will take care of it. I have no patience or compassion for sites that do these things. Either offer something of value, or GET OFF THE NET!

I just checked it out and it looks like google is picking up the link from the rate this site page where the affiliate has the link on the page with a description of the merchant and the rating. Are they trying to defeat the ad-blockers perhaps?? Is there something wrong with that??? Am I missing something?

I don’t think they are doing anything tricky here. Google picks up regular links and displays them like this sometimes.

Some of my affiliate links show up in Google this way, with no real rhyme or reason to it. When I first noticed it, I added my bounce script (used for my own link tracking and parasite concerns) to robots.txt and told them to stay out (for, verily, I fear the wrath of the Googlebot!). But the links remain in Google's index even now.

    Such is life, I guess.
