I can't find the last post, but I noticed that someone had mentioned that Looksmart is working with Gator.

    Can anybody provide further information?

I'm just trying to figure this gator out, but looks like Lycos might be using gator. Would that make sense?

What does gator do anyways and can't people bring a case against it. These scumware things are highly annoying since gator pops up every time my computer loads.

Uninstall it. It may be hiding as some benign looking software app named something like PrecisionTime or a calendar program.

If you can't uninstall it in Windows Add/Remove programs, get Adaware. That'll remove it.

We are working with the ad networks and Gator to stop them from stealing affiliate links ... This will happen.

Mostly, Gator sells pop-up ads. Say you own ABC Shoe Company and you have a website. XYZ Shoe Company buys ads from Gator. Somebody that has Gator's OfferCompanion software installed on their computer visits your ABC Shoe Company site. Gator pops-up an ad for XYZ Shoe company, which entices the visitor to their site with a coupon or something.

Say you don't own ABC Shoe Company, but you are in their affiliate program. You send traffic to ABC Shoe Company's site. Gator's ad for XYZ Company pops up and entices the customer away to XYZ. You lose the sale because the customer went somewhere else to shop.

Yes, people have brought cases against them, and are succeeding in getting injunctions to prevent Gator from popping up ads on their site. These have already been discussed at other posts. Check out the BeFree forum. There is a big brew-ha-ha going on in there because BeFree has Gator as one of their merchants. Also, there is another post in this forum.
