I was browsing through my log files and I found something very interesting I hadn't seen before. I am getting traffic from Overture VIA Gator. Here is the url: I replaced the keyword with XXXX...

http://xmlsearch.gator.com/overture/...sults_popunder

Gator has their hand in everything these days.

YIKES!

This just happened to us too. I don't know what to make of it at this point.

I really really don't like Gator.

I do like Overture.

Does anyone have any information on what type of relationship is in place?

How long has this been happening? Is it a trial?

Any comments?

Thanks,
Michael

PS. I just sent an email to Overture to find out what is going on, but I figured I'd ask the people who are really in the know.

What do you expect? CJ and Overture are IdeaLabs properties and the only rule Bill Gross understands is that Terms of Service (TOS) rules are made to be broken or selectively administered if it feeds his pocket.

I'm really looking for any detailed feedback on what other people have seen regarding this relationship.

Who else knows about it? What have you seen from it? What are the implications?

That type of thing.

Maybe this is a good thing????

I just cringe whenever I see the name Gator, so I'm not sure I'm thinking clearly anymore.

Any objective comments on how the Gator/Overture relationship works, and specifically what the impact would be on merchants/affiliates, would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Michael

Here's from a weblog called "Traffick: The guide to search engines and portals". Link to Traffick's site.

Look under Thursday Oct. 10th

Grabby, grabby, grabby. There must be an awful lot of money up for grabs all of a sudden in the pay-per-click advertising space. I did a search for "No Doubt" while enjoying Yahoo Radio. I was only a little bit surprised to see the page of different items include a sponsor matches section at the bottom - with the usual Overture results. I was considerably more surprised to see a popup of Lycos Search results - which also contain Overture search results as well as the regular Lycos (FAST) index - appear in a new window. These were generated by Gator. It seems that Gator and Overture are working overtime to ensure that consumers typing keyword searches get to see as many sponsored listings as possible. Dueling pay-per-click search results! What will they think of next? Anyway, back to listening to the tunes.

More can be found on Google by searching for Gator Overture...

Hi everyone,

I read a brief article yesterday that indicated that Kazaa was going to be offering search listings soon.

I really don't like where things seem to be going.

Any feedback on what you are seeing with regards to parasiteware, and CPC listings would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Michael

Looksmart's move to go to the "darkside" has prompted others to follow. When the search function get's to be secondary to these search portals they go down hill seeking ways to milk the advertisers pocketbooks.
