Is this a complete list of their clients? If so, looks like they've lost some thanks to the lawsuits people have filed against them. For instance, DietWatch.com isn't on there. Guess they have have been permanently barred from popping up ads on Weightwatcher's site.

Hopefully, we will soon see that list dwindling down.

Have these merchants been invited to join ABW, and asked to respond to their affiliation with Gator?

Should we E-mail any merchants on the list that we've joined and ask them to come here and respond?

I think that would be a good idea.

Tracy,

I might have missed one or two but that is the most complete and upto date list.

Gator has ads on ClickZ all the time fishing for advertisers. Recently, I was reading an article there about ethics in affiliate marketing etc... Low and behold, 3 big gator ads wanting me to extend my reach to 70% of internet users by advertising with gator.

Bassmaster,

Unfortunately, ClickZ is a BIG SUPPORTER of Gator and not just because of the fees

It amazes me that when people/ companies know the facts and they don't do the right thing because it is the internet and a few dollars!

Hope you didn't piss the Gator off Chris. They miggght come back and demand a sack of diamonds to keep their group of competitors off your domain and SE listings. How come they've never incured a DOS attack tying up their servers??

It gave me an announcement when I came to this page. Does viewing this page check for any other bad programs?

Sure wish we had a site script to eliminate the Gator & ShopNow popups. Do the AdBlockers and Popup Killers stop the Gator Ads??

My companies name was on the previous list of Gator merchants and now seems to have disappeared. We are very new to understanding Gator and would appreciate any direction and or help on removing them from our site. Or according to the new list, Gator has already been removed?? Can someone more informed on these topics or a merchant who has had experience with removing Gator from their web site please contact me. We are very committed to keeping things above board with our affiliate program but need help on how to proceed and how to block this technology. Thank you for any help you can provide. B.

Gator might be loosing favor at BeFree due to bad PR. They might help but your best bet is to contact someone at Overstock or even TigerDirect who may have gotten duped into using their program. Both of their programs jumped in regular conversions the moment they ceased any DuperAffiliate/parasite based advertising. Pm or e-mail Haiko the forum owner and he'll also be glad to help as he's intimate with cleaning up the slug trail left by Gator tracks. Rumor has it Gator charges a hefty fee to former merchants to keep your competitors from popping up on your domains.

As I am more than a webmaster, I am also a consumer who uses the internet to purchase products and services. I am dissapointed to see a few compaines listed above that offer products and/or services that I use. I am very opposed to Gator and I am learning all that I can about scumware/spam/etc., in order to educate myself as well as inform others.

I would like to write to the companies listed above that I use currently, and would love to give them a quick list of quotes and links to resources to better inform them of why Gator is not a resource they should use, and how in the long run, it *will* hurt their business.

If you were going to write a quick but informative letter to a business that currently uses Gator, and you wanted to make it thoughtful and not "slamming" to the company (as they may honestly have no clue how bad Gator is or exactly what it does), what would you say? What quotes/links would you provide?

Thank you for your help on this issue!

Hi everyone,

I HATE Gator.

I also have it loaded on my home PC. I added it a long time ago before they started down the path of darkness that they are on now.

I finally figured out how to turn it off unless I go into my programs directory and enable it. I just wait until I get to a website where I am going to fill out a form, and then I open it up and click one button. Of course, in opens up a few ads as soon as I wake it up, but I just close them, use it to fill out the form, and then put it back into hibernation.

One day soon, I'll take the time to kill the Gator on my home PC, but until then, they aren't getting any benefit from me.

AND just so there is no confusion here, this post is about my HOME PC.

Bare Necessities does NOT work with Gator, and does not have any plans to work with Gator.

Thanks,
Michael

Michael,

You sure it's still not tracking everything you're doing on the Net? Better watch what sites you are going to.

How's that test computer holding up? It hasn't exploded yet with everything you've downloaded has it? I would sure hate to see any computer die a slow death from parasites.

But seriously, I've seen mention there is a free parasite-free form fill program out there. Maybe roboform or something like that. Might be able to get an option to gator. I've never used it but might want to give it a whirl.

Thanks Canfree. Guess I'll give them notice before I drop them and see if they want to do the right thing.
