OK, this is odd. I have been working on a site, which, according to my sitemeter and the cgi scripts that I am testing on that site, has received ZERO hits for 5 days.

So what's the big deal? I'm receiving clicks on links that no one is clicking. Specifically, Dotster and New.net. I do not believe it to be foul play by these merchants, but why, oh why would I be registering clicks and NO impressions on a site that no one has visited in several days. I haven't even worked on this site in over 2 weeks, so I know it's not me doing the clicking.

    Anyone else experience this?

Do you have access to your full logs? If so look for "bad" web spiders.

I know a number of BettyMills sites, including mine, had problems with web spiders activating links and looking like "clicks" to the vendor, awhile ago.

The PicSearch bot was the one that was driving my numbers crazy. Blocking it solved the problem.

    CjNetworkQuality Bot.
It doesnt cause clicks I was told.
However the raw logs show its the only visitor to a new site over three days and 20 to 30 clicks happen during that time.
what is that saying about judging by what you do and not what you say?

Yeah, I didn't buy that one either. When the spider was getting alot of buzz a few months ago (I believe in May,) my clicks were double the previous month, and if I recall correctly, there was one day with over 100 click throughs. At the time, I was averaging 4-5 clicks per day. Makes you wonder...

Unfortunatly, my hosting service only allows me limited web stats, and the only thing it shows me, is where I was removing a deactivated merchant. Hmmm, come to think of it, the invalid links report says where the click came from, and the link I removed said (Unknown) referring URL. I just checked that report again, and sure enough there has been another click on the invalid link, even though it has been removed...

    Could be google cache?

Because of SAS, (last page clicked stats) I have seen a lot of clicks coming in from the cached pages at google.

I don't think it's google cache, because that would show up in the sitemeter logs.

If a bot is out their generating phoney clicks to confuse and pad the overall clickstream stats, it could explain this activity. I'm sure the AM's used to get a red flag when an affiliate gets lot's of sales with few clicks or impressions. I can't see the bot crediting clicks to newbee sites, rather then just padding the BHO's own domain pages, if the bot is there cover the amount of double dipping.

    Real confusing.
