OK, I click on the "get html" button, click on the advanced link and enter my sid.

Now, can I use the URL generated in an Adwords or ppc campaign and that way I would know all sales or signups with that SID came from that particular Adwords campaign.

Is this how it works or could be used?

Yes, the SID will then show in your reports. I used to like this when I had newsletters. I would use the date of the newsletter as the SID so I know which newsletters were getting the sales.

I also like to put the product name that I linking to. This way I know what product links my visitors are clicking on if I get any sales.

There are a ton of uses for the SID tracking.

Sid's (shopper id) are extremely useful. Yesterday there was a post about inserting the ip address of the surfer as your sid.

There is a maximum number of letters a sid can be - 60 I think. And a bunch of characters that can't be included. Like &,# etc.

So my advice would be to keep your sid simple. Entire long URL's may also play havac with the layout of your reports - readability wise.
