    Hi all,

first time post here, tnx for all the great infos I've been soaking up

I was wondering, do you make a direct link from your PPC campaign to the merchants sales page or do you link from your PPC to a page (pre)selling the product?

Which would make the most sense?

    tia,

Welcome Gandolf. Wizzards should know PPCSE links direct to a merchant is a real gamble. With all the cookie stuffing and BHO cookie hijacking going on, the numbers game is rife with risks. Best move is to make a nice showcase page with several mechant choices -sample product bargains for those keywords. Best case is you get a bookmark. Worse case is they click on a enticing link and you set your cookie a 100% legit way. Hidden value is that page might just get a PR and show in the free SERPs.

I always presell om my website....

I am trying to brand my name not that of the merchant... not to mention if you use an affiliate URL for PPC your ad will be branded as an affiliate link.

    Tnx for your info!

Basically you're both saying to promote through one's own pages. Now for anothother question that pops up; how do you test (up front) whether a keyword you bid on might be profitable?

Do you create a page, to discover that either your page or the sales page of the merchant isn't (or is...) converting, or do you test them otherwise?

    Your thoughts are much appreciated.

There is no easy way. You need to set it up and run the ads for at least one week before you get a better picture of things.

It help if you can get the merchant to install your google convertion tracker on his "thank you" page. You can then tell precisly which keywords are selling.

Lots of trial and error....there is no other way around it.
