GolfSmith has created a 1000+ product links however they all redirect to their home page. They are not great about answering emails quickly so I thought I would post this question to see if any other merchants actually do this intentionally.

And if they did/do what is the point?

I am thinking that this is not a php issue because GolfSmith also does this with a search (form) banner that automatically lands on their home page as opposed to actually creating search results.

    Very strange...

It does not make sense to me to land all product links on the home page.

If you have a customer pre-qualified for a product, why drop them on the home page and hope they will find that product on the site. Product links should land on a page that shows the product and the shopper can add it right to their cart.

Products that have been discontinued should land on the home page or a custom 404. If the product does not exeist any longer, the link has to go somewhere.

Perhaps they don't realize how landing every link on their home page can result in a lower conversion percentage.

    Scott and Haiko,

Ditto on both counts. But believe me, I don't think it is a (mass) redirect error on GolfSmith's part although time will tell. As I said, they set up a search form (banner) to do the same thing, and by the way, never got back to me on that one. (About 3 months now).

Why set up 1000 product links to land home, leaving the potential buyer(s) in never, neverland, when every last affiliate could simply do that themselves? Not that any would... Well, I sure as heck wouldn't...

I'll have someone on our end look into this. I am sure it is not intential - probably just a technical glitch in how they created the links.

    Sure makes sense (glitch) Todd.

Have them look into the search form banner as well if you could...
