Well, I've just gone and bought my first non dotcom or domain...actually, I've bought two - the same name but one is a .info and the other is a .org

What I'm wondering is which would be the best from a useability point of view.

    The domains are:

(replace "sometypeof" with whatever comes to mind...nooo, it's not connected in any way with ad*lt sites by the way)

Just wondering which one users might remember better and if search engines have any preference (as far as i know there's no search engine preference but I'd be happy to be proved wrong).

It'll be used as an affilate site by the way, with probably a bulletin board as well.

Any advice would be very gratefully received.

I've been around on the net for awhile and this opinion may only be mine. I've always preferred .org over .info...actually..I've had a hard time adjusting to all of them...I like the days of .com, .net, .org. Unless there was something that is country specific. I never hear people promoting .info or the .biz (meaning people I see on a regular basis). A lot of it can depend on the site content too...

It sure does. If it's research content (sorry for using the "c" word Leader) then .info would be pretty appropriate. Out of the new domain names .info looks pretty appealing to me. The next domain I purchase will be either .com .net or .info, I still can't decide which one rolls off the tounge better.

I'd go for .info as it seems to be up-and-coming. I have a feeling that .org will start to come under usage restrictions.

Thanks TH media, Rik & Dynamoo.

Like TH media, up 'till now I like the .org extension (although never registered one until now), and the feeling of respectibility it seems to give. However, the .info extension may in this instance fit a bit better with the name of the domain (the roll-off the tongue effect that Rik mentioned)....and if Dynamoo is right about usage restictions at least I wouldn't have to go changing things around.

Sooo...I've gone for doing the site on the .info extension on this occasion...not sure yet what I'll do about the .org version I registered yet...Now to get tippety tappety typing away to set it up
