I am planning a new site.
My question is would I be better (search engine wise) getting a new domain name and hosting account for it or would I be better using a bigger package on an existing domain name? eg. backpackingmall.com/newsite. I am thinking a bigger package would be the cheaper way to go but I do not know about the search engine angle, would they pick me up and rank me the same as a new domain name would?
thanks in advance

Gordon,
I recommend 2 smaller accounts (not because we do webhosting ) With the url in your example, you would 'probably' be ok in search engines...one thing I am concerned about is if you use another domain name to point to that subdirectory. I've had customers do it (and I've tried it) with semi-poor results. I also believe that Jada did some experimenting with this, with similar results. I have customers that want to save money so the put 10 websites under one single account...then point domain names to those subdirectories. Unfortunately, many domain pointing services uses frames, and it appears that can cause problems. I usually set things up in a subdirectory first...get the site the way I want, then move it over to it's own domain.

Hope this answers your question.
