My mate needs a new host & cost is a prime consideration for his needs.

His current host offers no/very little options or installed software, and is bugged with frequent downtime.

I could host his site on my interland server, but with the amount of bandwidth he'd chew, the cost would be excessive.

Requirements: (must have)
php & mysql installed. (will be running php-nuke)
Reasonable amount of bandwidth. His site gets about 2-3000 visitors per day (it's a movie news & reviews type site).

All of the hosts I've come across have very limited bandwidth options, or really excessive costs for extra bandwidth or php/mysql options.

Any suggestions?

THMedia, feel free to let me know what you offer

thanks

Pete,
We would be more than happy to assist. Do you know what his bandwidth is like right now? I have several clients that use PHPNuke, but I'm not aware of how much traffic they are getting... If you let me know what you guys had in mind, I can help you decide on the right package. To see our plans, our ABW specials page is still up at http://abw.thmedia.net Please note that the smaller packages do not include MySQL, even though that wouldn't be a factor for your friend.

Check out http://www.poehosting.com

You can get post-nuke (similar to phpnuke but without all the security problems) installed for free as part of your package.

speaking of PHP-nuke, I am thinking of installing it on some of my sites to help manage them. Is it worth the effort if the site isn't primarily a content site?

I resell hosting also and I install PHP-Nuke 5.5 for free. I can also add modules like shopping cart, calendar, classifieds for free too.

$7.99 is the bottom of the barrel for 50 mb space and 3000 mb in data transfer that also comes with two MySql databases. Sounds like you will need more BW though.

Thanks heaps guys.
I'll forward the info to him along with my suggestions.
It's kinda hard when all he considers is price, while I know that BW/features/performance should be the deciding factors here. I'll have to try I explain what he *really* needs.

The problem is that whatever option he chooses, I'll be the one that has to set it all up for him.. *groan*

Can I just recommend www.infodoma.com - I use these for one of my clients' sites and they have all the features you need, though you will have to ask about the bandwidth.

They offer custom hosting plans too, so you should be able to get exactly what you need at a reasonable price.

The main guy (Zain) behind them is pretty savvy and is very helpful, so you might like to give them a go.
