Wow, I've got 2 posts in the same topic. Does this mean I'm becoming a regular?

My question is this. I have been patiently waiting for a domain to expire. It did so on dec 5 2002. I tried to register it but I am being told that it is taken. I look it up in whois and see that it is still under the same owners name with the same dec 5 expiration date. I have pulled up the whois on several different sites but still get the same info. How do I find out if the name is truly taken or if it is available?

    Thanks again
    Steve

Even though the domain has expired, registars can hold the domain post-expiration for up to 6 weeks.

Check out the SnapNames chart on the delete process.

Snapnames is so-so.. I've gotten some reasonable domains with it but it's not so good with domains where there's much competition.

    Thanks, Dynamoo.

I sent an e-mail to Register.com and was promised a quick reply by their autoresponder but have heard nothing yet.

I checked out the deletion process at snapnames and that has answered alot of questions.

    This should be a sticky.

Expired domains are kept on hold for 30-90 days past the expiration date. 90 days are used by most registrars, including Verisign/NSI.
