I was just reading that keyword domain names are now worthless.

Do you agree or disagree with that?

My sites that have keywords in the domains have been doing better than those without them, for the most part. Of course, this isn't a scientific statement (I didn't go and *study* it) but those sites seem to do better, as a whole, than ones with generic names.

But I will clarify that I'm not talking about the keyword-keyword-keyword domain names that some call "spammy". The sites I'm talking about have regular sounding names that "just happen" to mention the keyword.

Keywords in your domain are good because when people link to your site they will usually link to www.yoursite.com . Having the keyword in your domain is good because incoming link text (the clickable text) is a major factor in rankings.

Yes, Google (for instance) does give a high value to the keyword in the domain.

It's why when you type "IBM", ibm.com comes up first.. Google thinks that if someone types "keyword1 keyword2" in and that matches your domain, then they could actually be looking for your domain. It's a trick really, I guess.

    Thanks for the replies

I agree with all of you. Keyword domain names are still valuable.

Supposedly they lost their value due to the change in Yahoo. As if Yahoo was the only SE!

Do a few searches on google and see for yoursef. Most of the top results will have keywords in the URL and / or domain. Still very important IMHO.
