Uh-oh. They're pretty notorious. Is it one you've lost or one you want to acquire?

That Chinese mobster owns over 80,000 domains used for bleeding expired domain traffic to set his affiliate cookies , do CPC deals, scrap e-mails for his spam servers and do some drive-by installs. He has some insider deals with shady domain registrars where he pays a premium for expiring domains with traffic the day they expire.

What mike says is true. I had a domain taken by him before its drop date from register.com - i have a back up hyphenated domain registered on the same day, once the one was taken, i thought i would register the hyphenated one which i wasn't using at godaddy.

They refused to release the name and said it had to wait until its drop date. When i asked them about the non-hyphenated name dropping early, they just acted confused and said it couldn't happen and I had the dates wrong.

No I didn't, i even had the receipts. Still no go.

To toy with scum like this, I always register my names after their renewal date, let them waste their money buying snaps etc. I hate anyone who partipcates in that side of the industry.

I am currently working on Trademarking the name, and am appalled I will need to fork over $1000 or more just to have someone review the infringment.

    This is pure garbage.....

Post your feelings about Register.com over at F**kedcompany.com as they just weaseled a legal settlement for shuffling domains to the expired traffic mobsters in the Far East.

They did get back to me, and for $5000 I can have the domain.

I'm sorry, but if their registration pre-dates your TM, you're going to have a tougher job - you run the risk of being accused a reverse domain hijacker.

Did you used to own the name? If not, what exactly is it that makes you think that you have more rights to it than the current holder? If so, why did you not keep the payments up-to-date?

Ultsearch's business model may not go down well with some people, but it IS a business model, is NOT illegal, and this has been confirmed in a number of UDRP cases.

Ultsearch doesn't HAVE to sell you the name, and considering the huge number of people that they won't even REPLY to, I'd say that if the name is something you desperately need, you should be thankful they've indicated they'd sell, cough up the $5000 and get on with business. If it's not worth $5000 to you, then stop complaining and go get a different domain name.

Alot of people too slow to register their favourite domains are appalled when they find someone else using them.

Oh, and by the way, you've got little chance of getting a TM on your company name. "Expedition outfitters" is what's known as a descriptive term. You need to use a "coined phrase" or a term or name not related to the business you do.

Your company name describes what your business does. Your chances of winning a UDRP (with either a registered or common law TM) are reduced due to this as well.

    Coined phrase business name:

    eBay

Name used in a business unrelated to normal meaning of name:

    Amazon

    Descriptive company name:

    Car Wash Machinery Inc.

They do have a highly successful business model, and of course it pisses me off that someone beat me to the punch.

And yes, I may just have to pay someone to get that domain, and a few others I am interested in.
