How does one install the mod_rewrite module on a Free BSD Box?

    Detailed instructions highly appreciated!

    Haiko,

The OS shouldn't have much bearing on this. What point are you starting at?

Do you have mod_rewrite.so in your apache modules directory?

If not, you might be in for an adventure, depending on your host, as you may need to compile it.

If you do have it, assuming it is in a directory called modules, you should be able to add the following line to your httpd.conf. (assuming you have access to your httpd.conf file).

    LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so

    and you may need:
    AddModule mod_rewrite.c

Once you do that you need to restart Apache.
