I hope someone can help me. What are the implications (if any) of having a popular and well known domain name as 1 of 2 words for a domain name?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

    far far away....
copyright imfringement, a cease and disist order...

I really depends what the words are and who the popular website is...

some will drop on you like a rock within a few days.. regardless what you are going to do with the name..

    others wont waste their time...

I have the .net version of a well known name of a online spammer..

they dropped on me fairly quickly...go figure...

Have been reading a few previous threads and I think that it would not be wise as they are huge! However, if it was a different spelling....

I just spoke to my dad who used to work for reuters and he said that people tried to register similar names to reuters and it just wasnt worth it as they went after them

I am a complete newbie to all of this so maybe it isnt wise to get myself into trouble just yet!

    Thanks for the advice!

Why would you want to risk it?

Register a easy to remember name and you won't have to worry about it.

    Hi ecca

Assuming that the name is a trademark, it's probably best avoided since they will inevitably have lawyers, and regardless of the rights or wrongs of the case, you probably don't want to go there.

Best advice as always is to try to come up with something nice and brandable - stick a couple of words together, make sure that you're not stepping on anyone's toes and off you go
