Do a multipart email and you can send both text and html in one email and whatever the email client's settings are, that's what will display.

Our service gives the mailing member the option of choice they would like to receive email in.

I hate html email myself, text text text being colorblind half the text in a html email is invisible or hard to read. tell ya whats really scary about html emails whats to stop someone from putting a web bug or worse yet a virus in a html spec. am i just paranoid?
